Everyone wants to feel safe.  When we don’t, we experience fear in some shape or form – anxiety, annoyance, anger, unease, etc.  However, when we feel comfortable around and trust those we interact with, we can relax and feel a sense of safety.  Interestingly enough, I have found that when I have more confidence in myself I feel more secure in different situations and around others and I have a sense that everything is going to work out all right.  From my observations I have come to believe that in order to feel safe around others you must first understand and accept yourself (through introspection and inner work) to build your own self-esteem and develop inner faith.  It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to trust those around us unless we first accept and trust ourselves.

When we don’t trust others we will have feelings of fear, anxiety, worry, or stress.  When we are afraid, we cannot create high quality relationships and experience better interactions with others. As a consequence, we will not be completely happy with our lives.  Therefore it is essential for us to do inner work on ourselves to develop greater self-confidence and self-esteem.  In this way our interactions become more satisfying and we feel happier with ourselves, our experiences, and our lives in general.
