Growing Bold means being free to live life on your terms. It means recovering what you lost as you grew from a naïve child into an adult who has figured out how to get along and fit in. And, living life on your terms sometimes means getting back things that were taken from you in acts of terrorism. Yes, terrorism.

Recently there was a cyber attack on the internet that brought down websites and denied people access for hours. Every few weeks there is another announcement that large amounts of personal data were breached by hackers. With thoughts of such attacks, running through my subconscious mind, I woke up today feeling exposed. Here I am building my business – developing websites, establishing a social media brand, creating email campaigns – and I suddenly felt vulnerable. I heard my mother’s voice saying, “The internet is a tool of the devil” and a tinge of fear settled in to my chest. I thought, maybe it isn’t so smart to build an online presence, maybe there is another, safer, way. Then I realized that this is the aim of terrorism, to make us afraid to act as we normally would. Terrorism can make us run for the hills and take cover, if we let it.

What are you not doing because you feel vulnerable? What areas in your life have you retreated from because you were afraid of being “attacked”? Where are you being held back, but don’t want to be any more? Becoming aware of your fears and developing strategies to conquer them are two things that can help you get back to doing the things you loved to do, but no longer pursue. Creating strategies to disable your fears can also propel you into adventures you’ve only ever dreamed of.

My upcoming book, Growing Bold: How to Overcome Fear, Build Confidence, and Love the Life you Live is a guide to tapping into what you want out of life and how to go after it, in spite of fear, building self-confidence along the way.
