Have you ever heard the story about how if you put a live frog in a pot of room temperature on a stove and then turn up the heat gradually under the pot that the frog becomes accustomed to the higher water temperature and doesn’t jump out.  Eventually he is cooked alive?  I’m not sure if this is true or not, but this describes what I think happens to many humans who find themselves in situations that are not necessarily good or right for them anymore, but that are comfortable – whether that be a relationship, a job, carrying around excess weight, what have you.  Over the years, for whatever reasons whether it is routine, it’s the path of least resistance, or fear, we have trouble seeing the signs of a changing environment or situation that might point to the potential need for a change.  Even if it’s a little uncomfortable, we can make excuses and refuse to see the faint writing on the wall and after time we can find ourselves in states of severe dissatisfaction or even in crisis.  In short, we can find ourselves cooked.

Becoming aware of when we are too comfortable and then taking steps that systematically upset the apple cart is a key to personal growth and development and stimulation in life.  I think this is why I love a challenge.

I’m getting ready to embark on Russell Brunson’s One Funnel Away Thirty Day Challenge to take my business to the next level.  The thought of doing this scares me and I question if I will get the results I’m seeking.  I know I can complete the challenge and in my heart I believe I will reach my goals but not knowing what lies ahead not only creates excitement, but also some fear.  What I do know is that it’s time for me to get uncomfortable, to learn new business skills, think in new and creative ways and push myself further.  I’m excited for what this challenge holds for me.

My mom always used to say, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” And for years I lived this way, remaining in that pot of water that was gradually getting hotter and hotter.  More recently, I’ve adopted the aphorism that my Uncle Bob prefers, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”  I think of this saying often now and it fuels me and helps me do things that are outside my comfort zone.
